A couple of weeks ago I bought some Wet n Wild products out of sheer curiosity. Despite not loving the name (lubricated condom, anyone?) I was curious about this super affordable makeup brand so I picked up a variety of things to get an idea of the overall quality – the score for this round is 2/3.
Wet n Wild Color Icon Palette in Comfort Zone (8 pan), R90
The 8 pan Color Icon palette in Comfort Zone has a neutral, earthy offering and has matte(ish), satin and shimmer shades. Budget palettes very seldom have matte shadows and while these are all described as pearls/satins/shimmers; some of them are within a hair-width of being matte. The shadows are surprisingly buttery and blendable, and most of them last for a good eight hours without an eye primer. The shimmer shades last a little longer than the more matte ones, but it’s a very big thumbs up for this one.
Wet n Wild Ultimate Brow Kit in Ash Brown, R45
I don’t recall if there were any other shades available, but this is a pretty comprehensive little kit. It has a brow wax (the proper waxy kind, not a setting gel), two shades of matte shadow to fill your brows with, mini tweezers, a mini angled brush and a slide-out mirror in the compact. On my dark brows I don’t use the lighter shadow and I find a soft tapered brush is better for application than an angled brush; but this little kit is definitely the one that’s going on holiday with me from now on.
Wet n Wild Cover All Concealer Palette, R60
This palette seemed like a nifty backup for my trusty corrective concealers from Inglot (which are amazing, by the way). I am somewhat disappointed because whenever I use them under my eyes to brighten/correct/cover dark circles, my eyes start watering, as if it contains a menthol extract or something similar. It passes after a couple of minutes, but after three tries I’m not going to go there again. It works pretty well on other areas of the face but I want to look into possible irritants first before I continue using it.
The eyeshadow and brow kit are definite keepers, and I’ll be adding more shadows to my collection.
Wet n Wild products are available from selected Clicks stores and they have a local Facebook page. I’m looking forward to trying some more products from them!
