Beauty Newness #15 – Red Square Vivabox, REN and Lipidol (+ a brand new blog design)

I’m easing myself out of this year ever so slowly. I’m doing this a bit later than last year (it feels like I was already on holiday this time in 2013, but I’m not at all phased because I have a super chilled holiday planned with not much travelling and other stresses). So let’s get cracking with the last Beauty Newness update for the year.

Red Square Vivabox

I’m not one for exaggerating, but this is truly one of the best concepts I’ve seen all year. If you’re planning to buy someone a fragrance and you’re not 100% sure if you’ll make the right choice, you can buy a Vivabox for R990 – it’s essentially a gift voucher packaged in a beautifully presented box together with seven perfume samples.

The women’s box has samples of Davidoff Cool Water, Paco Rabanne Lady Million Eau My Gold (a favourite of mine – see the review here), Carolina Herrera 212 VIP, Eau de Lacoste Sensuelle, Calvin Klein Reveal (review here), Eau de Lacoste and Roberto Cavalli EDP.

The men’s box has sample vials of Paco Rabanne 1 Million, Caroline Herrera 212 for men, Hugo Boss Hugo Red (flip, this man knows his way round fragrance), CK One, Eau de Lacoste Blanc, Hugo Boss Hugo Man and Davidoff Cool Water.

Once they’ve worked their way through the samples they can trot off to Red Square and ‘buy’ themselves the full sized version of that scent. LOVE that there’s a men’s option too. View the details here and here.

Holiday Gift Guides

In case you missed it, I filmed four holiday gift guides. They’re a combination of some of my favourite things and some other things I figured would make good gifts. The videos are all under 5 minutes long, you can find the makeup/accessories gift guide here, the bath/home/body one here, the fragrance guide here and the stocking fillers here.

My new blog design

I’m so happy with my blog’s new look – I can’t even imagine having the previous theme anymore even though it’s only been a few days. I did very little of it myself – my old design was built from scratch by my too-clever tech guy, so it wasn’t user friendly for people like me who know nothing about coding. I do intend to tinker with it a bit more now that it’s a fairly standard theme though – I’ve already played around a bit and it’s much easier to understand already.

If you have any feedback or are having any difficulties with it, please give me a shout. There are still a couple of small changes and additions that we’ll hopefully have finished by the end of the week.

REN Express Makeup Remover

One of the joys of the post office strike was quite a few lost parcels. They’ve started trickling in and among them was a nifty travel sized REN Rosa Centifolia Express Makeup Remover. It’s comfortingly creamy and it’s really good at, well, removing makeup. I’ve also used it with my Clarisonic and it works like a dream. R250 for the full sized bottle (R150).

There is also a micellar cleansing water which works well – but I’ve used four or five different kinds not and I honestly can’t tell the difference between any of them.

Lipidol Body Cleansing Oil

Oh. My. Hat. I kept this oil in the cupboard while I was finishing two other body washes. When I started using it last week it was love at first lather. It smells exactly like green wine gums (aka lime) and it creates a light, creamy lather. Not much foam there but I don’t even miss it – my skin feels great and I can almost swear I was less itchy after the first use already.

Great post! I think Foschini had the viva box concept already 🙂 curious to try the lipidol oil, my problem being that when things don’t foam much I just end up using more because it feels like I’m not clean yet!
