I’ve been keeping an eye on OGX hair products for a while now, and the more I learn about it, the more I like it.
For starters, their aim is not to ‘fix’ anything about your hair – it’s about making your hair more loveable. I really appreciate that because I’m very much over being told how my skin/hair/lipstick/eyelashes should look this season only for it to be changed again in two ticks.
I also like their slightly offbeat approach – they’re about pure, simple and attainable beauty. And while they make use of some pretty impressive exotic ingredients, they’re all about sustainability too, which gives them bonus points in my book.
We’re not here for a powerpoint presentation on the company though – we’re here because they’ve just added three new variants to their lineup. In addition to their existing offering (Brazilian Keratin, Coconut Milk, Macadamia Oil, Argan Oil and Sea Mineral Moisture), they’re now also offering Coconut Water, Keratin Oil and Kukui Oil variants.
I’ll just jump in with my personal favourite – OGX Coconut Water. I need to clarify right now that I’m not a big coconut fan in general. But I found that I didn’t really mind the smell while I was washing, and it’s very soft once it’s rinsed so I actually almost enjoyed it (guys, am I becoming a coconut convert??).
As for the actual shampoo? It’s deliciously foamy even though it’s sulphate free, and I noticed that my hair was MUCH more shiny from as soon as the second wash – and I was using good shampoo before this. It very much lives up to its weightless hydration promise as I’m currently typing this with second day hair that won’t scare any children – I’ll definitely use this again.
OGX Coconut Water Shampoo and Conditioner is available at Dis-Chem from R149 each.
Next up there’s OGX Keratin Oil – it’s infused with Argan oil and Keratin proteins to strengthen hair that’s prone to breakage. Although not its sole purpose, it’s specifically recommended for summertime when hair takes a bit of a beating from sun, salt and over-washing.
The combination of oils and proteins fortifies the hair which reduces breakage, splitting and will also tame flyaways; making it ideal for dry, coarser hair types.
OGX Anti Breakage Keratin Oil Shampoo, Conditioner and Miraculous Recovery Mask is available from Foschini and Dis-Chem from R149.
The third new variant is OGX Kukui Oil. Kukui is an Hawaiian oil known for its waterproofing and hydrating properties, making it an ideal frizz-buster. It’s especially recommended for curly hair since the water-repelling properties will allow your curls to do their thing while keeping moisture in and humidity out – sounds like a good deal to me.
OGX Hydrate + De-Frizz Kukui Oil Shampoo, Conditioner and Curl Cream is available at Dis-Chem and Foschini from R149 each.
