3 New Elizabeth Arden fragrances that pleasantly surprised me

I wasn’t overly excited when I received three new scents from Elizabeth Arden, since my favourite categories from theirs is makeup and Prevage skincare. But I was so impressed when I sniffed them that I figured all three deserve to be featured!

Always Red Femme EDT

The fragrance I was most skeptical about turned out to be the one I was eventually most impressed with. When I saw the matte black bottle in the instantly recognisable Red Door bottle shape I initially feared it was going to be a more potent version of it, but my fears were completely ungrounded.

Always Red Femme is warm, sweet floral with fresh fruity notes. It’s not overly sharp or strong, and it’s well balanced. The fresh, fruity top notes fade fairly quickly and leaves you with a sensual yet sophisticated floral. Officially the notes are blackcurrant bud, green pear, lemon, peach blossom, lily of the valley, jasmine, patchouli, moss, vanilla and cedar.

Side note: slightly obsessed with the matte black bottle.

Green Tea Nectarine Blossom EDT

The Elizabeth Arden Green Tea scents are great – I haven’t met one I didn’t like. They’re all super fresh and Green Tea Nectarine Blossom is no exception – I can almost feel the fruit between my teeth when I sniff it.

Needless to say, you really need to like a fruity scent to use this one. Officially the notes are peach, apricot, bergamot, green tea vapours, nectarine, florals and green tea. The citrus (bergamot) gives the scent an extra freshness – it will be a definite winner for summer.

5th Avenue Only NYC EDP

My first encounter with Elizabeth Arden’s original 5th Avenue was an odd one. As a child one of my friends’ mothers received a bottle as an unwanted gift, and promptly plonked it in the bathroom to be used as toilet spray. I was completely obsessed with it, and may or may not have drowned their holiday home in the stuff for two weeks straight. It stayed with me, and I bought myself a bottle with one of my first salaries.

But back to 5th Avenue Only NYC. It’s a fairly fresh fruity floral with official notes of bergamot, mandarin, pink peppercorn, cassis, magnolia, mimosa, peony, plum, amber, sandalwood and orris. I can pick up hints of the original, but it’s softer, younger and fresher – as if the scent has been energised.

Elizabeth Arden fragrances are available from department stores and pharmacies.
