How cool do these jelly-like popsticks from Maybelline look?
They have amazing tropical, fruity smells – Tropical Pink smells exactly like the red rope non-liquorice liquorice. Unfortunately I was quite disappointed with the colour payoff. When I looked at the product it made sense – it’s pretty much a solid wax balm – but I think Maybelline created heightened expectations with the Coloursensational branding.
The colour is subtle rather that sensational, take a look:
That’s the best shot I could get, and you should bear in mind that my inner arm is even paler than the rest of me. When tried on the lips, Citrus Slice disappears, Crystal Pink is difficult to see, and Tropical Pink was the one with the best colour payoff, though still very subtle. Disappointed as I was, I really wanted to like these guys because of how cool they look and smell.
Next thing you know, I had a light bulb moment and I started colouring in my cheeks with a popstick. Because all the things I felt that it lacked in the lip department, ticked the boxes of what I want in the cheek department: Sheen, not shine, and only a wash of colour.
Maybelline Colorsensational Popsticks are available in 6 shades at R100 each for a limited time only.
