Last week I finally made it to the ultra luxe Luminance store in Hyde Park for their latest offering – personal shopping.
You can book the shopping suite for an hour, and give the Luminance team your requirements beforehand including your sizes and detail on the occasion you’re shopping for (if applicable). On arrival there will be a variety of hand picked options in the suite, along with indulgent eats and drinks. About this whole setup the part I like best is that everything is done inside the personal shopping suite – there’s a fitting room with ample lighting and mirrors as well as a pay point and a table and chairs. Luminance also offers a tailoring service and will deliver your garments to you after adjustments have been made.
I liked that even though Luminance is not even a year old; they’re already editing the brands, items and sizes they offer in response to their customers’ feedback and needs. Soon there will be a larger variety of contemporary brands on offer alongside the classic designers, for example.
While Luminance is mostly out of my shopping league – I gave up on checking price tags after the first item I checked was R26 000 (a Carolina Herrera blouse) and the second was R10 000 (a pair of Manolo’s, darling); I think they’re hitting the nail on the head for a select shopper that couldn’t be bothered to queue in Foschini like the rest of us.
I also really like the cosmetic offering Luminance offers (duh though). There’s an entire section devoted to Dytique alone, which was previously not available in SA. While I’m not convinced if I’ll be able to part with R800 for a candle, I fell in love with the Dyptique Do Son perfume, and I’ve been reaching for the sample I received in my goodie bag every day since. They also have the body products and room fragrances, so you can go all out if you’re a die-hard Dyptique fan.
I also took an instant liking to the Marni fragrance – a gorgeous spicy/soapy floral. Aside from that there’s a great selection of Tom Ford, Armani Prive and Comme de Garcons fragrances and Bobbi Brown cosmetics on offer, and all the assistants I spoke to were clued up and friendly.
Definitely pop in when you’re in the area, it’s a shopping (or in my case, browsing) experience you’re not likely to find anywhere else in Jo’burg.
To book a personal shopping session, give Angie or Tsegho a call on 011 325 4765 or mail them on email@example.com. A deposit of R800 is required, which is redeemable against purchases over R5000 and includes tailoring and delivery of your purchases and a Bobbi Brown or Armani Prive consultation.
