Kerastase Fusio Dose Treatment Review

You know how people have a ‘thing’? They may have great legs, a year-round tan, super pretty eyes or blindingly white teeth? Without me having any say in it, my hair has somehow become my ‘thing’. Both friends and strangers constantly want to touch it (I have weird stories), and no less than three people have had my hair in their mouth on purpose in the last six months (again, weird stories). So when I was offered a tailor-made hair treatment I was keen to keep my hair’s fan base happy.

Often my issue with professional hair treatments are that they’re not quite what I need – they tend to focus on nourishment and repair, which are two things my hair does not really require. Kerastase Fusio Dose is different in that it’s completely personalised for your hair type and your needs at the time. You choose one of four concentrates (which is the base of the treatment) which is mixed with one of five boosters. If you’re keeping up with the math, that means there’s a total of 20 treatment options. What I appreciate almost as much as having options is that it’s a treatment that penetrates the hair. This means that how long it lasts is not dependent on how often you wash your hair – generally the effects will be visible for 4 – 6 weeks.

On the day I went for my Fusio Dose treatment my hair was spectacularly dirty – I decided not to wash it after swimming in a chlorine pool the day before, and I have the type of hair that needs to be washed every day. The stylist did a consultation with me and tested for shine, elasticity and a couple of other things while asking me questions about my hair. My super dirty hair definitely influenced the tests, because I ended up getting a double dose of boosters at the basin – we decided on a volumising concentrate (I always want and need all the volume, all the time) and a restoring as well as a shine enhancing booster.

I obviously had great hair when I walked out (hello, professional wash and blowdry) but I was blown away when I washed and dried my own hair the next day. In the silly pic below I had washed and rough dried my hair and only curled the ends, and the volume was amazing. It didn’t last the full six weeks on me, but I could see the effects for around 3-4 weeks after the treatment.

If you have specific hair needs (and especially if you wash your hair often) I would highly recommend a Kerastase Fusio Dose treatment. Options range from volumising, fortifying and reconstruction to shine, anti frizz and repair – the possibilities and combinations really are impressive. Salon prices vary but you can expect to pay around R500 – R600 per treatment.

I need the anti-frizz. I have super duper curly hair which is prone to all the frizz all the time. Which salons offer this? My usual salon is one of the Style Bar’s in Cape Town.

Salons that stock Kerastase should offer it, but probably phone and double check first since it’s new-ish x

You really do have amazing hair though!! Looks stunning in the pic. Thanks for the info on the treatments. I’d actually like to do something like this for my daughter. She’s got hair down to her bum, but super thick and brittle. So something to smooth and nourish it would be great. Personally I’d love the volume option.

You had a video a while back on Youtube where E V E R Y S I N G L E P E R S O N, I think including myself, commented on how great your hair looks. Was it after this treatment? Beyond stunning. If your hair looks this good in a picture, I can imagine why people will want to put it in their mouths in real life, haha xx

While on the topic – can you suggest a good wax for short textured hair with strong hold – not tacky – and some shine?

Hi Lucia! I don’t think it’s actual straightening, but anti-frizz and repair functions can definitely influence the texture of your hair.
