Don’t you just love it when other people do the nitty gritty little tasks on your behalf?
I’m talking about the annoying little things. It might not be the same for you, but most of the annoyances in my life are admin-related mundane little tasks that I view as ‘unnecessary’ but surprise surprise, they need to be done. Filing/keeping documents in a way that means I can find them on the odd chance that I’ll need them for next years’ tax return. Remembering to bin the empty water bottles in my car. Remembering to have my car washed. Sending in reports. Renewing all kinds of things. Changing your address. Blegh.
And of course shopping during the silly season. I love gifts and I love gifting, but because of my spectacularly bad planning and my ability to lose track of the number of days in November and December, I’m almost always in the shops during the week before Christmas.
I’m also the girl that ends up wrapping gifts in boys’ birthday gift paper because there’s nothing else left. Which brings me to my point – not only can you shop for gifts online on Red Square Beauty (click here to browse) and still have them delivered in time for Christmas (I would order them by this weekend to be safe though), you can even have your online purchase gift wrapped. I received one yesterday and it arrived in an immaculate condition – if it was a gift it would have gone straight under the tree.
When Red Square Beauty offered to give me a voucher to put this new service to the test I was only too happy to oblige. I had a chat with a group of girlfriends and asked Twitter for advice on whether they would spend a sizeable voucher on one or two big-ticket items or a handful of makeup staples, and the answer was overwhelmingly in favour of everyday staples.
So I browsed and browsed and became overwhelmed with the choices. I then stopped browsing and thought about what I wanted and started again with a plan: I’ll aim for products that can be used every day, with my specific aim being a flawless, glowing and radiant complexion.
Here’s what I went with:
To achieve a perfect complexion I went with CK One 3-in-1 Face Makeup, R420 (it’s over here). I wanted something super lightweight for summer, and the 3-in-1 function they boast with is that of a serum, primer and foundation combined. Even though the coverage is sheer/medium at best it does a great job of evening out my skin tone while still letting my actual skin show – I’m not a fan of mask-like foundations. To disguise dark circles and any untimely spots that pop up I went with Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Flawless Wear Concealer, R330 (here) – it’s a cream/liquid hybrid that covers very well without compromising on blendability.
For a hint of colour on what is ultimately a very neutral face, I went with Benefit Lollitint, R385 (here). It’s a very pretty, bright fuchsia shade that leans ever so slightly towards the orchid/purple side, but the product is sheer so all you see is a beautiful wash of colour when you apply it. I tend to shift around my foundation when I apply these kinds of watery tints with my fingers so I often use a stipple brush instead. It also looks amazing when you dab it onto your lips – for that I just use my fingertips.
I pushed myself a little out of my comfort zone by choosing Benefit Sun Beam, R325 (here) as my highlighter and I couldn’t be happier with it. I always go for silvery champagne highlighters but the bit of warmth in Sunbeam is gorgeous – and not nearly as ‘bronze’ as I had anticipated. Phew.
To finish off my super casual summer look I applied a dash of eyeliner, a couple of coats of mascara and the cult favourite Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector, R250 (here) in shade 03. All done!
Have I inspired you to do some shopping? Good! Because I have a R1000 Red Square gift card for one reader – entry is via the Rafflecopter widget below. TWO of the entry options are mandatory, and there are a boatload of additional options that you can complete too if you’re feeling frisky. Open to SA residents only. T’s & C’s apply. Good luck!
