Garnier BB cream for oily/combination skin review and swatches

I’ve had a chance to try out the Garnier BB Cream for Oily/Combination skin and I must say I can’t find much to fault it on.

The finish is definitely matte, but not the dreaded I-have-no-soul-powder-face I was imagining. There is talc in the formula (but there’s also a bunch of other minerals to absorb oil, provide SPF20 and provide tint) but there are still ingredients like Squalane and different silicones to provide moisture and slip. The press info I have also says it has caffeine and Vit C for brightness, but I can’t identify it on the ingredient list and I’m currently waiting for someone to point me in the right direction. I’ll update accordingly, you can just call me Isabel Jones 😛

Because the oily/combo skin formula is more pigmented and thus provides more cover, I suspected the light shade was going to be too dark but there isn’t much colour difference from the regular Garnier BB cream (featured here). The texture is a little runnier/less creamy, so you’ll naturally apply less product, which works well. I did go on to build it with heavier application which gives a flawless finish but also intensifies the colour, so careful with this if your shade is borderline for your skin.

Garnier BB cream for oily/combination skin swatches (heavy): light and medium. As mentioned above the shade dark was still in production. It's called deep in the states and elsewhere, fyi. There were some samples of the imported version there and it's a really good colour with not a hint of ash in sight.

Now there’s good news and there’s bad news…

Good news: Garnier BB cream for Oily/Combination skin in LIGHT and MEDIUM snuck onto the shelves already, and they’re yours for the buying. Get it at RRP R85 for 40ml.

Bad news? DARK isn’t quite ready yet, and it will only be in stores late September/early October. Again, I saw it and I almost want to promise that it will be worth the wait. Also R85 for 40ml.

Run, run, run! It’s lovely, and I made a mistake btw, it has SPF20, not 15.

I have a question. Which is the better of the 2 BB creams. Garnier or Essence? I am still using the 1st Garnier BB Cream and I find it really oily. Read your post on Essences and thought great, then saw this one and now Im not sure which one to go with 🙂 pls help

Garnier has better coverage and essence has higher SPF. I’ll probably try the Garnier one first if I were you. Luckily both are easy on the pocket so it can’t go too wrong!
