A couple of weeks ago I got to spend a fab morning at the Crabtree & Evelyn Tea Room (in the Design Quarter in Fourways) to learn about the newly revamped Evelyn Rose range.
I was expecting it to be all about Evelyn Rose, but it turned out to be quite an educational morning in general. Did you know that there’s a Gardener’s Hand Therapy sold every 30 seconds? And does anyone actually KNOW how to you’re supposed to use body powders? You apply it after moisturising, to seal it all in and create a silky smooth feel. I never knew this. Also, Crabtree & Evelyn powders are Talc free.
Anyhoo. The Evelyn Rose range has been given a complete, yet subtle, overhaul. The fragrance itself has been freshened up with Bergamot and Amber to slightly modernise it, and in my opinion it was done just right – it won’t alienate fans of the old version, but it will attract a whole new audience now too. The new packaging is utterly girly with a luxurious edge – it’s the kind of thing you’ll want to display all over your bedroom.
While I was standing around, someone asked if they could apply Evelyn Rose body cream to my arm. I obliged with a polite smile (another cream, I thought to myself) but I was so incredibly impressed with the luxurious nourishment that came from the tiny dollop of cream that was applied, I just kind of stared at my arm for a while.
We also spoke about the brand, and that they don’t want to be seen as stiff upper lip – they envision themselves as more Duchess Kate than Queen Elizabeth. I think they’ve got a good thing going, and that they shouldn’t mess around with it too much.
The Evelyn Rose range is available from Crabtree & Evelyn stores already, and the products are priced from R280 for a Hand Therapy up to R900 for 50ml EDP.
