L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil Shampoo & Conditioner Review

I’ve been using L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil Shampoo & Conditioner for the past week and a bit, and there’s good news for dry-haired girls all round.

While the shampoo is a clear liquid, it definitely contains a bunch of oils – it has a slightly heavy feeling and it doesn’t foam a lot. Don’t take that as a criticism of the shampoo, as it’s really not intended for my hair type.

Even so, I’ve continued using it as it makes my hair very sleek and shiny. As I mentioned it’s on the heavier side (I keep thinking I haven’t rinsed it properly as you can feel a bit of a ‘coating’ after washing), so I reckon it would be great for frizzy, flyaway dry hair types. In my case (fine, straight hair that easily gets oily) I need to freshen my roots with dry shampoo after I style it for it to not look too limp.

The conditioner is great for nourishing and taming my drier ends – it reminds me more of a treatment mask than a conditioner.

Lastly, they smell flipping amazing. The Extraordinary oil scent is a slightly soapy floral, which strikes a perfect balance between fresh and perfumed.

The Elvive Extraordinary Oil Shampoo, Conditioner and Treatment Mask are already in stores, and they’re priced from R47 upwards. There’s also an intense version that’s aimed at extremely dry, coarse hair.

The Extraordinary Oil Shampoo, Conditioner & Treatment Mask are expansions to the Extraordinary hair treatment oils that launched last year.

Sounds great. Will give it a try for my daughter. She has really thick. curly and long hair. And it doesn’t produce much oil, so this sounds perfect for her.

Hi is it suitable for black hair?

    • Mar 12, 2015 / 9:41 AM

Yes it is – there’s a richer version as well with a higher oil percentage that might even be better x

No probably not – the conditioner will be good, but you may want a lighter shampoo.

Yes it’s just a regular conditioner – I’d say aim for about 3-5 minutes before rinsing.

I have been using the shampoo and conditioner for about a month. I have very long coarse semi dry hair. I love ❤ these products. My hair and scalp feel great. I would highly recommend them.

Regarding Comditioner: Directions don’t mention rinsing it out after so long. So is it meant to be left in?

Hi Diane – it’s a rinse-out conditioner indeed. So bizarre that they don’t make that clear on the packaging!
