Estee Lauder Pleasures Pop review {Friday Fragrance Fix}

If you’re a fan of Estee Lauder Pleasures you might want to pull up a chair – Estee Lauder Pleasures Pop is a limited edition fragrance that launched last month, and I think it’s a goodie.

I always salute the original Lauder Pleasures for being a true floral – it’s not sweet in the least which confuses so many people, since florals are often (wrongly) assumed to be sweet. True, pure florals smell rather soapy; if it smells sweet it’s because of additional fruity or gourmand notes.

While I adore the scent of the original Pleasures, it’s so well known and loved that I always feel like it ‘belongs’ to certain friends of mine so I never use it myself. Pleasures Pop is the cousin from overseas that came to visit for the holiday – it’s a little lighter, fruitier and a bit sweeter, yet you can still clearly tell it’s related to the original Pleasures. It also comes packaged in a fantastical lumo pink bottle & cap that make me squee just a little, although I’ll deny that if confronted because I don’t even LIKE pink.

If you’d like to compare, here are some of the main components in both Pleasures EDP and Pleasures Pop EDP:

Estee Lauder Pleasures and Pleasures Pop notes comparison

Pleasures EDP:

Top: White Lily, Violet Leaves, Green Accents

Middle: Black Lilac, White Peony, Karo-Karoundle Blossoms (no idea), Baie Rose, Pink Rose

Base: Sandalwood, Patchouli

Pleasures Pop EDP:

Top: Pink Grapefruit, Cassis, Litchi, Raspberry, Litchi, Freesia

Middle: Lily, Jasmine, Pink Peony, Rose Wardia

Base: Benzoin, Cedarwood, Musk, Vanilla

Even with the added fruity elements and some leafy/earthy elements that have been eliminated, Pleasures Pop is not overly sweet. This is one of the best flankers to a classic scent that I’ve ever experienced (similar enough yet different enough), and I’m adding it to the ‘perfumes I’ll be using’ category without a doubt.

Get it at R750 for 50ml from Estee Lauder counters or their online store. There’s also a complimentary Pure Color Lipgloss in Fuchsia Vibes and a nail polish in Berry Vibes.

PS – If this doesn’t sound like your thing, I’m ridiculously obsessed with Lauder’s latest fragrance. As in, I’ve been wearing it just about daily for 3 months now. Click here to have a look.
