Last week a bunch of us were treated to some fancy pants events, one of them being courtesy of essie.
Aside from introducing their latest fall 2013 collection, they also broke the news that essie gels are coming in July 2014. We’ll be the first sub-Saharan country to get them (even before Dubai, excuse us) and the initial collection will launch with a whopping 36 shades. That’s a lot. Even better news is that those 36 shades are all classic essie best sellers – their names will be different though but I’m hoping the nail techs will have a guide to the shades. Gel polish will only be available from professionals (i.e no home kits) and you should pay around R240 to have yours done.
Back to the collection. Founder Essie Weingarten used NYFW to get the inspiration for these shades. She sees this as a back-to-school collection, and her school was the streets and the runways of New York City. Quite poetic. I could go on and on for quite some time as I was pretty inspired by the whole story, but we both know you’d rather just see the polishes and get the details, right?
There’s a great mix in the collection and I’ll be wearing at least four of these shades. I’m pretty sure the two shades that I’m iffy about are the two that will be most popular. For The Twill Of It (the periwinkle-grey shade at the top of the stack above) and The Lace Is On (the vibrant berry just below it) doesn’t have me convinced with their extreme shimmer. But the more I look at them, the more I think they might just work so I should probably just try them first and get it over with.
They’re pictured two by two – not just because that’s how the animals walked into the ark, but so you can see them better. The sets are also how I would pair them on hands & feet, but that’s all about personal preference.
This collection will be available from next week at RRP R120 per polish. I’ll start wearing these in the next couple of days, keep an eye on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for pictures (follow buttons are at the top of the page in the header).
