I was so impressed when I received the essence Merry Berry collection that I had trouble to keep my hands off it until I photographed it. In all honesty, one of the lipsticks didn’t quite make it to the photography stage – it was on my face the very same night I received it and the compliments rolled in.
Merry Berry is one of the prettiest and most wearable essence collections I’ve seen thus far – there’s a beautiful balance of sparkle, shimmer and vibrantly vampy berry-esque shades. The full range is made up of two eyeshadows, a highlighting powder, three lipsticks, four nail polishes and a glitter top coat, a shimmer powder and a hair perfume.
The products look really premium, I adore the embossing on the powder products and the quality is mostly consistent with their permanent products. Then there’s the pricing of course – you can sneak a couple of these in with your toiletry shopping and you won’t even feel the difference at the till.
Essence Merry Berry Eyeshadow in 01 The Perfect Dress, R38, is beautiful to look at for starters, and it’s a near-perfect taupe shade with just the right amount of shimmer to it. It’s much more neutral than it looks in the pan – it’s closer to greige than anything else.
Essence Merry Berry Lipsticks in 01 Let’s The Berry-Tales Begin, 02 Pink & Perfect and 03 Red Rocks, R45 each are truly beautiful – I especially love 03 Red Rocks, which has a more matte finish than the other two shades. I do find them to all be a bit waxy, so they don’t last long on me at all. I wear 03 Red Rocks over a nude pink matte lipstick though, and that looks AMAZING.
Essence Merry Berry Highlighter Powder in 01 I Love My Golden Pumps, R65, is a warm toned golden highlighting powder that’s shimmery but not too sparkly at all – it has a beautiful finely milled texture and the swatch doesn’t even come close to doing it justice. It’s warmer than what I usually wear, but it’s a definite keeper.
The Merry Berry collection is available from Clicks and Dis-Chem during November and December, while stocks last. I checked last week and it wasn’t in store yet, so it should probably be phasing in round about now.
