For the longest time I was terrified of contouring. I had no desire to transform my face into an entirely new shape, and even if I wanted to I couldn’t get it right – I was never able to find the right product for my skin tone.
I eventually came across MAC blush in Taupe – the perfect cool-toned, almost-grey contour shade for fair skins such as my own (the cool/grey undertone aids with creating the appearance of a shadow).
As luck would have it, I bought it just as it was being discontinued. I’m sorry (for me and for you). If you’re not up for a hunt on ebay, the best alternatives I’ve found after comparing endless swatches are NYX Taupe blush (not available in SA as far as I can tell) or MAC blush in Harmony. If you use something that works really well let us know!
As for the video below, I keep it VERY simple – you can even do this in harsh light and you won’t look unnatural. As you’ll see I start out with a light hand to establish my contour lines, and from there you can go back in as many times as you need to get the desired effect. Just make sure to blend away the lines every time!
You’ll also see that I go up the temple a little bit. This is to ‘anchor’ everything – a floating line under your cheek just looks weird. That’s also why I go all the way into the hairline.
Hope you enjoy the video, let me know what you think!
