Drrrumroll… It’s time for a Chanel makeup collection again. I’ll admit that I’ve become a little blasé about cosmetics, but as soon as I catch a glimpse of Chanel’s glossy black packaging and interlocking C’s, I can’t wait to rip open the packets to see what they look like.
In this limited edition collection there are some things I’m in love with and others I’ll pass on, so I’ll take you through everything first and then pollute your mind with my views later. For the first time in a while, every item in the collection is available for a limited time only. It’s all inspired by butterfly wings, so it’s fairly daring for the most part, with some subtle gems in between.
Exclusive Creation Stylo Eyeshadow, R330 each
At first glance I mistook these for chubby liners, but they are in fact cream eyeshadow sticks. Three of the shades are neutral (black, pewter, yellow gold) and three are vivid (plum, blue and green). They can easily be used on their own, or blended for a more dramatic effect.
Shades available are 07 Moon River (pewter-ish) 17 Cool Gold, 27 Pink Lagoon (plum), 37 Jade Shore, 47 Blue Bay, 57 Black Stream
Stylo Yeux Waterproof liner, R270
There’s only one liner in the collection and it’s in 57 True Blue, which is, well, a true blue that leans towards turquoise. While it will certainly brighten a dull complexion, it’s not something I’ll be bringing near my own complexion/eye colour combo.
Inimitable Waterproof Mascara, R355
These were the biggest shocker for me, they’re so daring! My first thought was that Chanel’s a little behind on the colour mascara trend, but the vibrant colours blew me away. Again, they’re not exactly my cup of tea, but they’ll be a lot of fun for a lot of different faces. Available in 27 Zest (yellow), 37 Lime Light (mint green), 47 Aqua Blue (milky blue), 57 Blue Note (royal blue)
Rouge Coco Shine, R360
Two traditional lipsticks are available here; a brilliant, lovely, universally flattering fuschia/watermelon shade called 467 Pygmalion, and the more subtle & peachy 457 Idylle. Rouge Coco Shine is Chanel’s high-shine, semi-sheer lipstick line, so the colours will go on less intense than they look in the tubes – juicier, if you will.
Levres Scintillantes, R305
For the purpose of this collection these shiny, sheer glosses are available in three shades – 377 Zephyr and 427 Envolee are suit-all peachy tones, and 437 Eden is a Fuschia shade.
Le Vernis, R265
Of the three nail polishes in the collection, two are trendy and daring, and one is classically beautiful. 647 Lilis is a beautiful cream textured peachy orange with a nod to coral, 657 Azure is a shimmery jade blue-green and 667 Bel-Argus is an intense, vibrant royal blue, also with a hint of shimmer. To be honest, Azure and Bel-Argus remind me more of peacocks than butterflies.
I have a couple of products to show you, and I’ll be swatching and reviewing them over the next few weeks. This collection will be on counter from 21 June, while stocks last.
