The Chanel Le Rouge No 1 Collection launched in stores a couple of weeks ago and as we’ve come to expect by now, it’s a beautifully curated one.
In true Chanel style there’s an assortment of classic and contemporary red shades, as well as complimentary browns and neutrals. The inspiration behind the collection is the powerful emotions associated with the colour red – from feelings of love and passion to darker associations like blood and war.
It’s a fall collection so there’s a lot of burnt red and brownish shades, which is a welcome addition to the classic reds. For me the highlight of the collection is the eyeshadow quad – Les 4 Ombres Candeur et Experience is the first all-matte Chanel quad I’ve laid eyes on, and it’s something I’ve wished for for some time now. I’ve always been a massive fan of the Chanel quads – the shadows are of impeccable quality and they’re always beautifully curated – but most of them have only had satin and shimmer shades.
The collection is small but comprehensive, and there are some gorgeous items that would be very welcome in any beauty junkies’ collection. Les 4 Ombres Candeur et Experience went straight into my eyeshadow drawer after a brief hostage situation where I had to use my authoritative voice on my sister, who was trying to liberate it for herself.
