Bold Lips & Contoured Lids

Think we’ve reached peak contour? Think again. Contouring (or sculpting) your eyelids is now a thing. Not necessarily a new thing, because if you’ve been defining your crease you’ve pretty much been doing it, but a thing nonetheless.

As much as I like shimmery metallic eyeshadows, I really love the soft finish these matte taupy shades give my eyes. Just as with my previous video (it’s over here if you missed it) this is both a Get Ready With Me and a First Impressions, so you’re most welcome to watch the video below and then read what I think about the products I used.

As you may be able to tell from my facial expression in the vid, Revlon Photoready Prime & Anti Shine has a pretty unique texture. It’s a solid wax and I wasn’t quite sure what to do with it, so I just smoothed it on with the provided sponge. It spread pretty well and upon closer inspection afterwards it definitely has a killer blurring effect on pores. It was also a scorcher of a day and I didn’t have a hint of shine.

Revlon Photoready Airbrush Effect Foundation (shade 002 Vanilla if you’re interested) started out promising but I didn’t really like the finish when I took a good look at it. From a distance it lives up to the airbrush effect it promises, but that would only work if you’re not going to be closer than a metre to anyone. Up close there are bazillions of tiny glitter (not shimmer) bits that’s just not my vibe. I’ll give it another try on a night out and see if anyone notices.

The third and final Revlon product I used was the bronzer in shade Bronzilla 012. I used it for contouring and it worked really well even though it’s a bit warmer than your typical contour shades. It’s matte and it has a great colour payoff, and I reckon it would work even better on medium skin tones.

On my cheeks I used Max Factor Creme Puff Blush in 25 Alluring Rose. The colour payoff is much better than I expected – I even had to go over one cheek with my foundation sponge afterwards because my hand was a little heavy. The shimmer is just right and in case you’re wondering – no, they’re not exact dupes for the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes but they’re not that far from them either.

My favourite products from the bunch is by far the two Bourjois eyeshadows – Utaupique 06 and Noctam-Brune 08. They’re somewhere between satin and matte, and I really can’t fault them in any way. There’s no product fall, they blend amazingly well, they lasted all day and they made my eyes look pretty.

On my lashes I used Almay One Coat Multi Benefit Mascara. It’s SUPER waterproof (I made a bit of a mess on the outside of the tube and I had to really scrub to get it off) and I like the shape of the brush. It’s nowhere near a false-lash-effect mascara, but towards the afternoon I realised that my eyes felt super comfortable even though I sat with a fan blasting at me for most of the day – usually by that time I’ve started rubbing them and tugging at itchy eyelashes. I never realised that the solution for itchy eyes might be as simple as switching to a mascara specifically for sensitive eyes.

I haven’t used brow finishing products in ages (I go through phases) so I was curious to see what the L’Oreal Brow Artist Genius Kit would be like. I have the medium/dark kit and the shades are perfectly cool toned so you don’t have to worry about having muddy catterpillars by 10AM. You use the wax first and then the powder, and when I saw a picture of the end result I decided to slip it into my makeup bag to use again 🙂

On my lips I applied Max Factor Lipfinity in the shade 50 Just Alluring. It’s exceptionally buttery, but it lasts surprisingly well – I got a good 2 – 3 hours out of it. Unfortunately it transfers onto everything your lips touch which I don’t like – I can’t stand seeing lipstick marks on the rim of my glass. I do reckon you can minimise that by first blotting and then setting it with translucent powder, but that’s too much effort for me. A final note on this lippie: it applies brighter and a little lighter in colour than the shade looks in the bullet.

Great video and post. I also usually steer clear from mascara during the day Bcos of my itchy eyes, will be sure to try one for sensitive eyes.

I think I may give the Revlon Prime and Anti SHine set a try. I always battle with shine, so I don’t mind trying anything that may assist with that.

    The final look was stunning!

That primer really surprised me – I’m usually very meh about face primers but it made a big difference. Thank you x
