Since I’ve apparently lost the ability to manage my time, I chose only the most impressive products that I’ve come across over the last couple of months. The crème de la crème, if you will. So grab your reading glasses, hide your wallet and have a look at what has crossed my dressing table lately.
The Chanel Lip Crayons (R610) are everything I hoped for an a whole lot more. They’re creamy, yet they stay put for a good couple of hours. They have a satin finish, and I was most surprised by shade 01 Nude – I was expecting it to wash me out, but it turned out to be the perfect subtle 90s nude shade.
You may have seen that Urban Decay launched a bunch of new primers and setting sprays (and relaunched a few existing ones). While I always end off my makeup application with some form of finishing or setting spray, I do so for the effect it has on my makeup and not because I think it makes it last any longer.
The Urban Defense Complexion Primer (R450) is my favourite here – it blurs any and all imperfections to leave you with super smooth, baby soft skin.
One of my top 5 favourite fragrances is Chanel Chance Eau Vive. Do you have any idea how much joy I felt when I received an Eau Vive Shower Gel (R755) and Body Moisturiser (R865)? No, I don’t think you do. You also have no idea how magical I smell after using it, and how great it looks in my grey and white bathroom.
If you like your makeup sleek and curvy, Lancome Grandiose Liner (R340) and Lancome Grandiose Mascara (R410) were made for you. The liner has a brilliant design – you click the wand/handle to the side to bend it to an angle that suits you. I never got to try the mascara because a friend nabbed it claiming it’s too pretty to go to waste on my messy dressing table. Fair point.
I love a face mist as much as the next person. In fact, I probably love it a little bit more than the average person, so Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Miracle Hydrating Mist (R350) was a welcome addition to my collection. It’s refreshing and hydrating, and leaves the skin with a slight dewiness. If you’re wondering, it doesn’t have the trademark 8 hour cream scent.
I can’t wait to try the Kiehl’s Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream (R895) because it sounds pretty perfect – it has Manuka Honey to hydrate and strengthen the skin barrier, and Red Ginseng to amp up the glow.
I’m not a fan of face washes at all, so I gave the Optiphi Pure Cleansing Wash (R550) to a friend to try and get her off face wipes. I then stayed with her for a weekend and used the wash, and ended up regretting giving it away. It has a lovely creamy texture that lathers up ever so slightly and rinses of easily. It also does a decent job of removing most makeup – I just had to give my eyes a wipe afterwards to get rid of some residual mascara. By far the most gentle face wash I’ve ever used.
I can’t say for sure whether Filorga Nutri Filler Lips (R445) makes my lips much more plump, but I love the applicator (you turn the bottom to disperse a few drops at a time on top, but it’s not one of those moderately disgusting sponge applicators) and how it feels on my lips. The effect is that of something between a balm and a gloss, and it 100% works for me.
