It seems that Baby Lips is the Marmite of lip balms – it has avid supporters that swear by it, and there are others that insist that it’s useless.
Me? While I won’t chain myself to the Baby Lips stand and disrupt Clicks to proclaim my dedication, I am a fan. Even more so with Baby Lips Dr Rescue as I’ve always been a sucker for anything minty – my friends joke that my home smells like peppermint crisp tart because I always have spearmint or peppermint essential oil all over the show.
I appreciate that the balms are waxy and comforting, and I’m a sucker for the colour payoff and sheen that comes with the tinted variants. I particularly like the three tinted Dr Rescue variants I have, and I’m planning to make good use of them this winter – both on their own and together with lipstick.
On the technical side, Baby Lips Dr Rescue contains both eucalyptus and menthol extracts that have a soothing, cooling effect on dry and cracked lips – I doubt it would be able to do anything more. For R35 bucks you can do much worse, so pop one (or two) in your basket next time you’re in Clicks, Dischem or Foschini – my current favourite is the mauvy-pink Berry Soft shade. If I’m not mistaken there are two more shades.
If you like to plan ahead, I have a video here where I chat through the Maybelline and L’Oreal launches all the way up to June.
